OLTA Convention Planning Underway
|
The Bedlam Bash is history. The Big XII Championship is in the bag. The entire state will be sitting in front of their t.v. sets on December 27 and January 1. Now, set your calendar forward to February 17 and 18, for "Oklahoma Title University!"
The OLTA Advanced Abstractor's School is set for a four hour session on Monday, February 17 from 1-5 p.m. (Then attend the OLTA Legislative Reception!) School begins again at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18 until 5 p.m. at the Waterford Marriott Hotel. We anticipate approval of 12 hours continuing education credit, including one hour of ethics.
Course materials include all the basics in abstracting and some of those items you have rarely heard discussed. A practical applications lab on abstracting will allow members to create an abstract using the information received during the class sessions. Matters to be considered when underwriting Title Insurance will also be brought to light.
Participants will receive the newly revised OLTA ABSTRACTOR'S HANDBOOK and the Oklahoma Bar Association Title Examination Standards for 2003. Registrations will be due by February 10, 2003 so start making your plans now. Watch for your registration form in the mail!

Owners/Managers Meeting
Mark your calendar to attend the 2003 annual Owners/Managers meeting on February 17. This year's meeting will again be held at the beautiful Waterford Marriott Hotel in Oklahoma City. A limited number of sleeping rooms have been reserved at the hotel, so make your reservation now! Call the hotel directly at 405.848.4782.
Meeting organizer David Steed, OLTA vice president, is working on a great program that will be informative and educational for those who attend. The Owners/Managers meeting will begin at 2 p.m., immediately following scheduled OLTA committee meetings, and will conclude at 5 p.m. Lunch is on your own prior to the 2 p.m. meeting.
Right after the Owners/Managers meeting is the Annual Legislative Reception. The reception will also be held at the Waterford Marriott to help keep it convenient for those attending both functions. We know this yearıs reception will be even greater than last yearıs and encourage all OLTA members to attend. The Legislative Reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will last until 7 p.m. So, plan on being at all the events on February 17. Watch for your registration form in the mail!
Membership Drive Underway
OLTA wants to grow our membership and we need your help. The membership committee has undertaken a bold, new direction and has targeted 2003 as a year to continue to grow the number of members involved in OLTA. The committee has developed a new Membership Packet, which will include a brand new brochure outlining the benefits of membership, where to get more information in order to join and other facts about OLTA and ALTA. Also included in the packet will be a greeting letter, calendar of upcoming events, list of titles in the video lending library that are available for continuing education credit and a revamped membership application. If you know a company who is not a member, let us know and we will be happy to contact them and send them a membership packet.
