OLTA to Offer C.E. Transcript Service

Earlier this year, OLTA learned that the Insurance Commissioner's office would no longer maintain a record of continuing education credits earned by title license holders. Beginning November, 2002, the process of keeping track of those credits will fall to the individual licensee to maintain a complete record to submit with their license renewal.

In an effort to respond to this need, the OLTA Board of Directors has pursued an aggressive program to develop an advanced website allowing a member to track his or her continuing education credits via the OLTA website. The records will be maintained and updated by the OLTA staff. Here's how it will work beginning January 1, 2003.
  Coming in February, 2003

If a licensee attends an OLTA sponsored continuing education class, the list of those who attend the course will be entered into a database at the OLTA office. This will include the course title, course approval number and date the course was completed. If a licensee attends a continuing education class NOT sponsored by OLTA, we will work with the sponsoring entity to insure that the course meets all the requirements necessary to be accredited. We will also try to obtain a list of those who attended the course and update the database with this information, as well.

Our goal is provide a comprehensive and accurate transcript of courses completed for your title license renewal.

If you are an OLTA member, a licensee will be able to access their record to determine how many hours they have accumulated and how many hours are still needed to complete the continuing education requirements as required for licensure. In addition, at this time we are working with the Insurance Commissioner's office to accept the OLTA transcripts as an "official" record of a member's credits. We are very encouraged and anticipate a positive response from his office in the very near future.

Remember: We are only offering this transcript tracking service to OLTA members as a benefit of membership. We are here to serve our members!

President's Message

President Beverly Jones   Dear Members:

The general election has come and gone and our grassroots efforts were successful. We have Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher and State Auditor and Inspector Jeff McMahan for four year terms. I want to personally thank each of you for all your hard work in the auditorıs race. Once again, we united and stood tall for common causes that would and could virtually affect our industry. Our association is comprised of truly great hard working members.

Now that we have the general elections behind us, let the work begin! At our September Board of Directorıs meeting, the Board voted and approved an increase in our dues for the year of 2003. It has been 10 years since we have increased our dues structure. We will make every effort to use the increase wisely. We have several projects that our membership committee, public relations committee and computer technology committee are working on. One of our new projects is an upgrade on our website to track continuing education, another being new membership brochures, and a public relations drive to recruit new members. Itıs an exciting time for our association and I am extremely proud to be a part of the progress.

We have much to be thankful for this year. The Federal Reserve has just this month lowered the discount rate another point. The rates are at a 40 year low and we as an industry have prospered in this low interest climate. We have all worked diligently and yet, we have maintained our sanity and enjoyed the fruit of our labors.

I wish each and every one of you a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you at our Owners/Managers Meeting in February, 2003.

God bless you!
Beverly Jones
