President's Message

Dear OLTA Members:

By the time that you receive this TitleGram, all of the OLTA Regional Meetings will be over. So far, they have been very well attended. I would personally like to thank each and every member that attended these meetings. The things that we learn from our fellow members are priceless.

While I was attending the Kansas Land Title Association convention in August, I learned how much the surrounding state associations admire our association. What a compliment! There was one question that was posed to me that stands out and that was, "In your opinion, what is one thing that makes the Oklahoma Land Title Association a strong association?" It did not take long to answer. Two simple words: It's MEMBERS! I truly believe that this association would not be as strong as it is if it were not for the devotion that comes from everyone one of YOU. I am amazed at times how quickly you can come to each other's aid or to assist in a grassroots effort at the Capitol.

The second question that was asked of me was, "How in the world do you all get your association to work so hard toward the Okie TiPAC political action committee and what is the goal that has been set by the committee to be raised this year?" I explained first that because of term limits that has been imposed on our elected officials, in 2007 we will have all new faces at the Capitol. The cost of each election for them is becoming more and more expenseive. The expectation is that we should contribute to their campaigns. The OLTA Board and the Okie TiPAC committee have agreed that we should try to raise $100,000. I know that sounds like a very high goal, but we have several ideas on how to raise this amount. As we talked about at the Regional Meetings, there are 113 active Certificate of Authority holders in this state. Or, we could look at it as there are 77 counties with multiple offices in some counties. I know that $1,000 is difficult for any company to give at any one time. But, if we could get a pledge from you to give a certain amount — whether it be $1,000 or $100 donated all at once or over a series of time — we would reach our goal in no time at all.

The solicitation letters from the Okie TiPAC chairman have been sent out. Please do not let these sit on your desk unattended. Take the time to fill out the contributor statement, make a donation and return to the office as soon as possible. After all, the only thing we have to lose is our businesses!

I would like to say that it is truly an honor to speak to the other states on OLTA's behalf and tell them how hard you work. Keep up the great job you are doing!
